Joana Duah

Born and raised in Brasília, Brazil’s capital city, singer Joana Duah lived and studied for 5 years in New York City and Hong Kong. She was a member of the band Maskavo Roots (1994-98), as well as the Afro-Brazilian group Batacotô. She has performed alongside Rosa Passos, João Donato, João Bosco, Sérgio Santos, Guinga, Roberto Menescal, Jorge Benjor, Ivan Lins, Simone, Gilberto Gil, Leo Gandelman, Miéle, Dominguinhos and Hamilton de Holanda, among others. Her first recording, Dá Licença (2011, Rob Digital) was produced by João Samuel and arranged by pianist Fernando Merlino, featuring multi-instrumentalist Arismar do Espírito Santo.
